Corporate Social Accountability
2008-09-29Today Mr Rolf Skjöldebrand of Brand Management Navigator lectured on the subject Corporate Social Accountablity at a Googol Fourth Monday event in Stockholm.
Rolf, one of the original founders of Googol, kept the audience in contemplating silence one moment, just to throw us into debates the very next.
Can we keep our corporations and their boards accountable for what is commonly referred to as sustainability?
Can we not?
If we think that the worst effect of short-termness is lack of Innovation, well we actually have to think again. Short-termness in leadership is costing much more than that, if there is such a thing as short-termed leadership. That's just management, we say. Leadership is by definition long-termed. And sustainable. A leader is a role model, and we welcome those to guide us.
Interesting enough, the audience agreed that there is an absolute chance for corporations to position themselves in a coming era of consciousness. To embrace this as a natural development. But it’s not a campaign; it has to be for real. We have not only to train ourselves in how we act, how we consume, how we make our choices. We also have to choose leaders that can generate power to make change. That can, will and commit to having impact.
Googol has engaged in Social Entrepreneurship, because it engages us and because we believe it works. It is not a campaign. We still have tons to learn, and we commit to doing that. The fact that it engages us is possibly one of the most important driving forces behind possible success.
We see ourselves on a journey that we also hope will inspire other business leaders, change makers, entrepreneurs and “fellow citizens of Earth”.
